Preventing acne is just as important as healing it and nutrition can help
Prevention, prevention, prevention! Regardless of where you are in your acne journey, you can begin preventing future breakouts today.
Let’s take a look at how to begin laying the foundation for prevention through nutrition. A strong nutritional foundation that can be utilized as a platform to affect change in other systems with greater ease.
WHY?
Nutrition helps lay the building blocks needed for things like hormones by supplying a multitude of vitamins and minerals.
It is actually easier to identify and address a hormonal imbalance once the nutritional building blocks are in place.
And…the good news is that doesn’t take very long to do. In just a couple of weeks your brain will re-program itself, resulting in seemingly new taste buds and a decrease in desire for certain foods. It actually takes a little time for your brain to ditch the desire for the previous flavors and foods you consumed. It will happen though…remember to give yourself a chance.
A strong nutritional platform aids your organs of elimination as well. Fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are gathered from the foods that you eat and play crucial roles in the elimination of toxins, including already processed and broken down hormones.
Having a strong nutritional platform can also help make it easier to identify what goes wrong when a sudden breakout occurs. You can often locate the offending foods by retracing your steps since a strong nutritional foundation means that the majority of what you eat is going to be benefit your skin (therefore it shouldn’t be too difficult to locate what you ate that was out of sync).
Often, nutritional slip ups occur during times of excess stress and tend to last for a couple of days. It can also happen during times of travel when it can be difficult to find and eat your normal diet for skin health.
The whole point is to try and cultivate enough mindfulness that you are continuously working on preventing new acne breakouts. It is common to have slip ups and they are not meant for you to get down on yourself about. They are learning opportunities to hopefully help prevent you from going down a path detrimental to your skin health.
So what does a strong nutritional foundation look like? Acne Beautiful takes you through that step by step as a client, but there are some things that you can start doing today to get started on the most basic elements.
- Drink more water. How much clean, pure, filtered water do you drink a day? Be honest with yourself. Acne Beautiful cannot overestimate the importance of water for skin health. So, first and foremost, find yourself an awesome water bottle and begin using it every day. Make sure you are drinking at least 64 ounces of pure clean water every day. Try not to drink for at least 20 minutes following a meal, but other than that…drink up!
- Shop the perimeters of the grocery store to avoid the aisles of temptation. You know, the colorful aisles of junk. This stuff will ruin your skin. Do eat it. Avoid those colorful packages like the plague. The perimeter of the store contains everything else. Focus on purchasing a variety of veggies and fruits. Make sure your basket is colorful.
- Fill 3/4 of your plate with veggies at each meal (yes, at breakfast too). Acne B. has amazing tips effortlessly getting veggies in throughout the day!
Think of nutrition as your suit of armor. You gotta protect your skin with a suit of armor, baby!
You don’t have one right now and your skin is not happy about it. It is yelling, “hey, where’s my protection!” And…your skin is right.
Do these 3 simple things and you will be well on your way to securing a strong nutritional foundation for skin health and acne prevention.
